This song‐dance began with a discussion about the need to pay homage to the evacuation of our St. Paul Island community during World War II, and also for the need to recognize that this difficult and painful experience shaped our story, and us, today. With all due respect to those that personally experienced the evacuation, we need to remember their journey as a happening that contributed to the freedom and the strength, we have today. We sing this in the annual community walk to East Landing, commemorating the walk our forefathers took on June 14, 1942, to board the ship, never knowing if they would return. It is sing and dance at other times, too.
